This course is for students in grades 11 and 12, 16 years old or older, who have a valid drivers' license, an excellent school attendance record and who have failed no more than one course for only one six weeks during the school year before they enroll in this course.
This technical laboratory course focuses on career preparation. Students must be have paid employment for a minimum of 15 hours per week or unpaid employment for a minimum of 10 hours per week in an approved work station (job site). Employment must be in Colorado City in a business which is open to the public during regular business hours. Students must be supervised by someone who is not a relative. Students may enroll during the first six weeks only. This year students will assist at the Main Event, the thrift store operated by our Main Street program. This will be done during class hours two days each week.
Students may be released for work during afternoon periods of the school day. Juniors are allowed one release period; seniors are allowed two release periods for work.
Diversified Career Preparation I In the classroom, students focus on employability skills, human relations, communication skills, career planning, and financial planning.
Diversified Career Preparation II is for students in good standing who were enrolled in the DCP I course the previous year. Students will complete individual modules which apply to their chosen career path while continuing their employment.

40% Employer Evaluation -- by supervisor each six weeks
30% Classwork, Projects, Tests
10% Weekly Hour Report
10% On Site Performance (Main Street)
10% Classroom Performance -- Includes attendance, following class policies, work ethic in class. |
