US History
Colorado High School
Dear Parent/Guardian of CHS Student:
Synopsis: We start with a review which outlines the history of the United States through the Civil War. This will take about six weeks. During the rest of the year we'll continue from Reconstruction to the end of the twentieth century. We will spend time throughout the year looking at the Constitution and major Supreme Court cases. We'll also discuss social issues and elements of everyday life.
Expectations for Behavior:
Students have one rule for behavior: "Be excellent to each other." This one little statement covers every aspect of living in a way that encourages dignity, compassion, confidence, cooperation, leadership, creativity, and learning. This is one rule that I insist to be followed.
Classroom Procedures:
1) Students will be on time.
2) Students will remain in class the entire period. High school students are expected to take care of business before or after school, during lunch or during the passing periods! (If a student has a medical situation that makes this difficult, please let me know so that we can discuss an alternate plan.)
3) Students will come to class with books, assignments, pens, notebooks, etc.
4) Students will turn in assignments on time. Students have “one day of grace” to turn in late work (with a major point deduction.) After that, the assignment is given zero and may not be made up.
5) Get make-up work/tests done in the specified time, or that, too, will receive the grade of zero.
6) Bottled drinks (no drinks in cups) from the CHS machines and snacks are allowed in the
classroom, as long as the student does not leave a mess.
7) Tutoring, help with make-up work, taking make-up tests or
retests will be done before or after school.
*Cell phone use is absolutely forbidden during class---no exceptions! If a parent needs to contact his/her child, he/she needs to call the CHS office, 728-3424, and a staff member will get that student to an office phone.
Grading Policy: Daily Grades 40-50% (one d.g. is dropped each six weeks)
Quizzes/Projects 15-30%
Major Exams 35-50%
This will vary, according to what we are studying in a given
six weeks and the types of assignments given during that time.
My conference periods are 2nd (9:02-9:50)and 5th (11:42-12:30). If you need to contact me, you may e-mail at
bcrosley@ccity.esc14.net or call the CHS main office at 728-3424.
I am looking forward to a successful year working with you and your student.
Sincerely,
Brenda Crosley
