We have just finished out the first six weeks. It seems like time is flying.
Our Mystery Unit is up and running. The students seem very excited about this. We started the unit discussing “What is a Mystery?” I realized that most students had the misconception that any scary movie/ghost story was a mystery. I have tried to break them of this by explaining that a mystery has to have a problem or crime that needs to be solved.
Through class discussion I have also realized that most of the students enjoy watching mysteries on television such as CSI, Monk, etc. If we can just get them interested in reading the mystery books!!
So far students have been working in groups to try and solve mysteries. They are required to use their higher-order thinking skills in order to solve the mystery. They have had to make educated guesses based on the clues given to them and then come to a conclusion about "Who Done It". This has been very interesting, listening to their conversations in their groups and seeing their conclusions.
