Hello! My name is Linda Epperson, and an aide at the high school. My husband and myself have been with this school district for over twenty one years. I have been associated with the high school students for more then ten years, and have earned my own room. But, it is the most unique room on campus. The "OCS" room (on campus suspension) has really turned out to be very diversafied. The main purpose is for discipline when students are unruly with any kind of disturbance, or for tardies. It has also served as a place for student's to have a cooling off period. By letting the student sit alone to do class work, sometimes vent or write constructively, the problem doesn't seem as big.
As a whole we have great students, even if they mess up sometimes. Our school stands behind the teachers, but more importantly, behind the students. Sometimes it takes just one time out here for them to realize that no matter where or who you are, there are consequences. Hopefully, by the end of their fourth year, the repeaters in here will remember that we tried to enforce a bit of stability in their lives, and that it has helped them as they go into adulthood and the "real world". There is nothing more rewarding then a student who spent a lot of time in OCS, come to you after they leave and say that they actually miss you as a person. When they say "thank you" for caring enough to listen, I know that my time was worth it. |
