This year we're going to combine Spelling and Vocabulary studies. We will be choosing words that the students encounter in Reading, Language, Math, Science and Social Studies. We will also be sure to include words that will be useful to them in their TAKS writing.
The spelling/vocab tests will be on Fridays. It will consist of a portion where students correctly spell the list of words. It will have another section where they will be required to show their knowledge of the vocabulary words and a final portion where they use this information in writing sentences and later a paragraph.
REMEMBER: We don't spend much time working on Spelling in class. Your child will need to do most of his/her studying for the tests at home. We have a practice test on Wednesday and a final test on Friday. If a student makes a perfect score on the practice test, he/she does not have to take the test again on Friday. |
