Homework helps us learn. |
We will have homework assignments every day Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. They will come home in a homework folder with your child's name, my name and our room number on it. The homework will help reinforce what we are learning in the classroom and let the children have extra pratice on their letters, sounds, numbers, and sight words.

|
Language is Reading, Writing, and Vocabulary |
We will have a homework page for the letter of the week. It might be a worksheet to color and cut out, a maze, or a page to cut out pictures from magazines and catalogs. They will be simple pages to reinforce our letter and sound of the week and practice their coloring, cutting and gluing skills.

|
|
Math is Numbers, Counting, Sizes, and Shapes |
We will also have a worksheet to go with our number of the week. It may be to color the correct number of squares for each number, gluing on objects, or a cutting and gluing page.

|
Sight Words and Phonics Readers |
We will also begin learning some sight words this year. These words are words that cannot be sounded out by the phonetic rules. The children must learn them "by sight," know them when they see them. Learning these words plus our phonetic rules will enable your child to read some simple phonics readers even before Christmas.

How to Help |
You can help your child succeed when you help with their homework and then check it for correctness. You can also help their language development by reading to them daily and by talking about daily activites and special outings. I appreciate your help very much.
