Welcome to my class. My name is Mrs. Johnson. I am looking forward to being your reading teacher
and getting to know you. We will have a great deal of fun and become stronger readers and test takers
this year. I would like to tell you a little about my expectations for the time we will spend together.
CLASS RULES
1. Be seated when the tardy bell rings.
2. Bring required materials to class everyday.
3. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
4. Plan to be positive. (NO PUTDOWNS OR WHINING)
5. Look and listen when the teacher is speaking. (NO TALKING)
BEHAVIOR POLICY
Students are expected to follow the rules of the class at all times.
Lunch Detention will be served by students when teacher deems necessary.
Examples of offenses: habitual lack of supplies, tardiness, missing class work, behavior problems, putdowns, etc.
Students who show extreme negative behavior problems (fighting, disrespect, tantrums, etc.) will receive an
automatic discipline referral. Excessive offenses may result in students being excluded from fieldtrips.
CLASS PROCEDURES
GRADES
Grades will be calculated as follows:
Daily written work 50%, Tests and Projects 35%, Participation 15%
Participation includes effort and attention to class discussion, class reading,or any class activity.
Student work must be turned in on time.
Accelerated Reader (AR) will be on an extra credit basis only.

• one package notebook paper
• pen(blue or black ink) or pencil
• red pen
• one pocket folder with brads
• one box kleenex
WRITTEN WORK-
• All written work must have a complete heading.

o write in complete sentences
o write in pencil or blue or black ink only
FOOD, AND/ OR DRINK – Students may bring a water bottle to class.
NO OTHER FOOD OR DRINK WILL BE ALLOWED! DON’T TRY IT!
ABSENTEE POLICY- You are responsible for making up work after absences. Be sure to ask me for your missed assignments.
Remember you must be present 90% of class days to receive credit for the course. Each 8th grade student must pass their
TAKS Reading Test to promote to 9th grade. You need to be in class every day possible.

CLASS CONTRACT- Please bring back the attached contract, signed by you
and your parent, the next class period. You will receive two free 100’s in the
grade book to help start off the year right.
