Dear 8th Grade GT Parents and Guardians,

As your child’s GT teacher, I wanted to explain some of what we will be doing in class this year.

Eighth grade GT is a very busy and fun class. We will work on reading and test taking skills, but we will also produce the yearbook, visit the Wallace Center Senior Citizen Lunch Program monthly, produce a monthly newsletter for the Senior Citizens, produce a monthly CMS newsletter, take any photos needed on our campus, take care of various CMS bulletin boards, and maintain the CISD Service Learning Webpage. Needless to say, we will be busy!

All GT students at CMS will be required to participate in U.I.L. They must try at least one event of their choosing. I will be offering extra credit for each extra event.

My goal is to make sure that your child has the necessary skills to master the 8th Grade TAKS Reading Test (and hopefully score commended), and to provide them with many choices in their learning and projects. Choices are very important for GT students to experience.

Students will have an opportunity to choose which projects they work on. Some projects we will all work together to complete, but we will set up committees to complete each part of each project. Hopefully we will be able to find a way for your child’s “gift” to be developed.
