There are many schools of thought about the TAKS test. I believe that the skills tested in the area of reading are skills that students need to be effective students, employees, and citizens. These skills involve thinking and being able to use information from reading. Every student needs these skills.
Therefore, we don't complain about TAKS, we just attack the skills we will need to conquer it. Each student and I will review past TAKS scores and discuss areas of individual strengths and weaknesses. We will also set individual goals for the next benchmark or test. The goal is to learn from our mistakes and build on our experience.
We will also practice our TEKS and TAKS skills using our novels. We will rarely use any formal "TAKS" materials.
