September was the beginning of our planning process. FCCLA students met with their groups, advisors and other community members that would help with their project.
Three FCCLA Students attended the Leadership Workshop at Region 14.

During this meeting students were blindfolded, taped together or their hands taped together to represent a physical disability.

At our next FCCLA Meeting, we had an “Empathy Lunch” and then discussed how they felt while being disabled.

Mitchell County Railhead Trade Days
Our FCCLA members made posters, coloring books for the children and handouts for the parents. We also created an area with pumpkins for the community to take pictures. One of our members brought their sheep for children to pet so they would know what wool felt like before it is made into clothing and blankets.
We also had a mini-cotton gin supplied by the County Extension office.

The Apparel Class made pillows and blankets out of donated items from people in the community. They sold these items to buy more fabric and supplies for their class.

The apparel class made patchwork stockings from recycled fabric.
The Interior Design class and DCP refinished a piece of furniture to be sold at the auction.
A display was set up at the Livestock Show in Mitchell County about Dairy facts. Coloring books, recipes and handouts were also available.

Nursing home visits
Our Food, Science and Nutrition classes studied a unit on the Elderly. The students planned a Valentine celebration for the residents of both nursing homes. Cards were made by all the classes and cookies (regular and diabetic) were baked. The visit was so rewarding and the cookies were used for their Valentine party.

Kelley Elementary Fall festival
The FCCLA had a booth with displays of nutrition information, make yourself nutritious snack, handouts, coloring books, cookbooks and stranger danger,

Gingerbread Barns
Since our emphasis was on farming and ranching, we asked the 2nd graders to visit our classroom to make gingerbread barns.
Financial Fitness Unit and Project
Our students worked with the 2nd graders about saving money and educating them about the bank. We made coin holders out of play dough so they could have a place to save their money.
We took the 2nd graders on a tour of First National Bank to finish our unit. We gave out a coloring book that told the story of the bank tour.

Mr. Waldrip, President, gave each person a new gold dollar coin. We gave out a coloring book that told the story of the bank tour.
Our students made money bingo, money puzzles and money memory games for the 2nd graders to play during their financial fitness unit.

Nutrition Unit
Obesity is a big problem with school age children. Our students created a unit to help elementary children understand what is good to eat and what can be eaten occasionally. This way accomplished by food models, food labs and posters.

Students also learned portion control and how to measure.
